HyperPOP Developer Blog: 2/19/2024
Welcome Gamers!
Today is the first of many upcoming developer updates for HyperPOP. In these blogs we will bring you the newest information about new features, art assets, bug fixes, and much more! We at Two Minute Games are very excited for you to be able to dive deep into our world of Paradise City and guide R-054 (Rosa) on her journey towards freedom!
GOMP V2!
You read that right, upgrades have been made and the new and improved GOMP model is now working as the first boss you’ll encounter as you try to escape the Panopticon prison. This new and improved model made by CORP-OS has been enhanced with new attacks to try and keep you trapped without escape. These new attacks include his electrical-storm AOE attack, Charge attack, Ground slam stomp, and Rocket arms. A new boss intro sequence has also been added to introduce and kick off the fight with a ground-shaking stomp!
GOMP’s attacks are now triggered based on the distance that the player is from the boss himself. For example, if the player is too close to GOMP he’ll start spinning his torso, causing an electrical windstorm to form around him, dealing damage to anyone within its’ reach. These new ranges of attacks make the player stay on their toes, constantly moving to maintain the fast-paced movement we feel HyperPOP needs.
Updated Movement!
We have been listening to all the feedback our play testers have been giving us and are continuously working on tweaking what we feel is the most important aspect of our game: movement! HyperPOP, at its core, is a movement shooter. Therefore, the fluidity of our movement mechanics, such as the wall-running, grappling arm, and double jump, all need to flow together to allow for a smooth feel to gameplay. Our amazing team of movement programmers have been working hard to implement our newest movement mechanics. These new changes will make your movement feel much less “floaty” in the air, allowing R-054’s Inertia to keep her moving forward faster.
Rocket Launcher Is Now in Alpha Stage
As the narrative of HyperPOP progresses and R-054 gets closer and closer to freedom, her arsenal will continue to grow along with her. After the fight with GOMP in the top of the Panopticon, Virgil, R-054’s guide through Paradise City, has found a way to reprogram R-054’s cybernetically enhanced arm to replicate the GOMP’s projectiles. This gives R-054 a new form of combat and traversal. The rocket projectiles will allow you to destroy hardened objects such as generators and break open certain hardened enemies. The rocket will also allow R-054 to rocket jump by shooting at your feet, launching R-054 into the air. R-054 will use this along with your other movement skills to reach new heights as you traverse through Paradise City.
